In this issue: New categories and kits
Greetings from a beautiful, sunny and hot Cape Town. It's almost holiday time and I'm sure that everyone feels like a good break after a busy year. Thinking back, it HAS been a busy year, but nevertheless, a successful one.

Our trip to Russia and the Ukraine

It was wonderful! I saw so much talent, so much pride in their work and it was good for my soul.

I met up with my friend and stockist, Marina Zherdeva in Moscow, and she introduced me to talented embroiderers who brought their work to show me. I wish you could have been there to see! I will add their work on my blog to share it with you. I observed Marina's exquisite work and she has an awesome gift with silk ribbon. I saw so many exquisite pieces at her home - I was overwhelmed with the beauty of each perfect piece.

Marina and I will be doing a book together and you will see what I mean by talent! She showed me the sights in Moscow and it is a beautiful city with so much history, architecture and style. I loved every minute of my stay there.
Then Hazel and I headed for Kiev in the Ukraine to teach at the Masters' Golden Hands International Exhibition and Fair and what a treat it was! We saw so many gorgeous creations, met such warm and hospitable people and taught friendly and clever students in a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Success all around! Thank you Yuri and Tatiana and your family for all that you did to make our stay so memorable, for showing us your beautiful city and for looking after us so well. We will never forget our stay in Kiev and hope to return soon!
I am proud to introduce Tatiana Popova of Little Owl Smart Crafts as my agent and stockist in the Ukraine. Tatiana herself is a skilled ribbon embroiderer and I was most impressed with her stand at the show. She is fluent in Russian, English and Ukrainian languages and was extremely helpful when she translated during my workshops. Tatiana will now be able to offer assistance and she will order whatever you need for my books, DVDs, Box full of lessons and my range of silk and organza ribbons.

Have a look at the STOCKISTS page and search for Ukraine to find Tatiana's details. We have added new stockists to the list and you are welcome to see if you can find one near you.
St. Petersburg

After the show, we headed for St. Petersburg, a beautiful, beautiful city. There I met up again with Marina Zherdeva who also travelled to St. Petersburg to help translate from Russian into English language.

I met the famous Valentina Razenkova : a ribbon embroiderer I have admired so much over the years. Olga Smirnova was there too (remember Olga's beautiful ballerina from last year's competition?) and we had a delicious lunch with caviar on tap... delicious! And Olga's pudding: the best I have ever tasted. And I fell in love with a cat named Eustace - a St. Petersburg Sphinx.
He stole my heart.

That night, Valentina took me to see the ballet: Giselle and I will never forget the beauty of the dance and the majestic ballet house. Children as young as six were sitting quietly watching the ballet and I was most impressed with how many young families and their children attended the show. The theatre was packed, not a chair open anywhere. After the ballet, Valentina's handsome son took us for a ride around the city to see the night-life and it really is a gorgeous city. I loved every minute of my stay in St. Petersburg.
I was fortunate to buy three of Valentina's masterpieces which travelled back with me to Cape Town. They look so beautiful in our home and every time I see them I think of the special time in St. Petersburg... thank you Valentina for parting with your masterpieces. They are very happy in Africa and I plan to put them on exhibition for all to see. Everyone is welcome to stay in touch on my Facebook page to keep up with all the latest news and creations. It's a place to share and learn... Press the like button to connect with people from all over the world.
The following day, Marina, Valentina and Olga took me to Rita Tikhonova's home and in her lovely kitchen we all sat around the table having a wonderful meal and spent time with the friendly and talented embroiderers from St. Petersburg. I wish you could have seen Rita's beautiful pieces... soon I hope to show them to you on my blog. You are welcome to subscribe to stay in touch... and no, I'm not in the photo above - everyone knows I stay away from cameras!

All I can say: you should put Russia and Kiev on your bucket list - it's a spectacular place with so much to see and to experience and we look forward to going back to Russia to teach. I learned something useful in the workshops in Kiev. The Box Full of Lessons , which is available on CD, has a convenient function. You can highlight a paragraph, copy and paste it into Google Translate to read the instructions in your own language :)

Out and About in Cape Town

If you are planning to visit Cape Town, I have found a lovely place for you to stay. Every year my mum, sister and I spend a girl's weekend together as we live far apart and so we need to catch up with each other. We stayed at 52 De Wet , a boutique hotel in Bantry Bay with heavenly views and we sat on the deck watching the sun go down. ZenZero in Camps Bay is highly recommended for supper! If you are here at the same time as kamers vol geskenke in Somerset West, you won't be sorry... the talented crafters will blow you away with their uniqueness and the food is simply divine.
Paris and London: here we come!

Wilsia Metz (of Metz Press), Hazel Blomkamp and I will be travelling to Paris and London in February.

I will be teaching at L'Aiguille en fête grand public du 14 au 17 février 2013 and hope to see you there. I will be teaching the Blue Hussif and am awaiting details from the show organisers.

Please feel free to email me for more details. Looking so forward to meeting you there! I will also be signing books at the stand of my French Publisher Tutti Frutti and you are welcome to meet me at stand. Please email me for details.

From Paris we will leave for London to be at the Craft Hobby + Stitch International Show at the NEC in Birmingham on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 February. There you may find us at the stand of our English publisher: Search Press (stand J18), or at a seminar where we will be talking about "How to export your craft successfully"

Looking forward to seeing you there!
