Newsletter November/December 2014

Hello from a beautiful, sunny, warm Cape Town. It's almost holiday time! I'm sure that you feel like a good break after a busy year. Thinking back, it was a busy and constructive year. I have returned from teaching at BATB in Adelaide Australia and I really enjoyed my time there. My friend, Karen Fraser (who teaches at Piecemakers in California) helped me with my classes and I think everyone in the workshops had great fun.

We laughed a lot, achieved a lot and I was thrilled to see the gorgeous work at the end of every day. Raelene Case from Mount Gambier won first prize at a local show for the piece she made in our workshop. Congratulations, Raelene!

Thank you Fiona and her unbelievably talented team from Inspirations Magazine for making everyone feel so at home. It was fun spending time with the team of talented tutors at the hotel every night and such a pleasure getting to know everyone a little better. I salute you all and thank you for the good memories.

  Lovely New Products

A) New Satin chiffon fabric for making flower petals

I have added the popular, hand painted satin-chiffon fabric that I used for the Vintage Roses and you are welcome to order the different colours here.

B) New Green silk paper

The popular silk paper used for the leaves in the Little Flowers book is now available as a separate item. If you wish to use this concept in other embroidery projects, click here.

Silk paper is a sheet of paper-like silk fabric, formed with layers of silk, which have been felted together and it is most useful when making 3-D leaves in a design. The size of each square is approximately 12.5 cm x 12.5 cm or 5 inch square. I have written a short tutorial for you on how to use this wonderful hand-made product. Enjoy!

C) New Starter kit of silk and woolly fibres

We have now introduced a starter kit with the popular colours.

All of the fibres in this kit were used in the Wild Roses design from Little Flowers book, and it is also an ideal starter pack for your embroidery box. Read all about it here.

Woolly fibres can be stitched onto a background for a feathery texture and it also makes lovely clouds and trees.

D) Brand New Ribbon kits

2 beautiful new kits have been launched from the Jill Kirstein series and they are absolutely gorgeous. Both these masterpieces were created by the super-talented embroiderer, Emma Kriegler from Stilbaai in the Cape. Emma has written instructions on how to make these beauties and there are colour pictures to guide you as you work. Enjoy! Can't wait to see what you do with your kit!
