Newsletter October 2020
Hello Stitching World! We are having beautiful weather in the Cape and the days are a little warmer now, thank goodness. We’ve had the most wonderful rains; our dams are full and the Theewaterskloof dam is overflowing for the first time in almost a decade. And to think that less than three years ago we were almost at day zero!
The team and I have been busy, we have moved into our renovated studios and everyone has their little spot where they can be creative and spread out as they see fit, so the team is a happy one! 4. Promise of Spring KIT
It is whispered that fairies are the guardians of Primroses - the flowers that are a symbol of protection and safety. They are one of the earliest bloomers in spring - a sign that warmer weather is on the way. This lovely kit is a popular addition to the Anne Cotterill range and Emma Kriegler made this beautiful piece as well. I am sure that you will have fun making this enchanting picture! New and Popular
I have added more useful products to the haberdashery section under threads and things category. The 100 Embroidery Stitches booklet is highly recommended, the easy threading needles too. Cotton voile backing that is so soft and fine, it’s perfect for backing your embroidery or to use for stumpwork shapes and Trapunto. You can buy the 1-metre pack or the 60 cm (23”) pack which fits the large A3 size designs. The 1-metre heirloom cotton pack is a popular item, as is our useful MULTIPURPOSE NEEDLE PACK for Ribbon embroidery and stumpwork.
In this pack, we include all the needles you will ever need for any kind of ribbon embroidery, creative embroidery and stumpwork.
The Kreinik Blending Filaments are back in stock. You will find the 032 Pearl here and the 093 lavender here. We have added more colours to the Woolly Fibre range. These fibres are useful for filling in shadows between your stitches, for making trees and clouds. To add a feathery texture in your design (such as little birds or a cat), for creating shrubberies and hedges in the background. Have a look here to see how to make the background trees with green fibre, and here you will see how to make a hedge with pale green and yellow fibres.

Shops and Studios
I am always happy when shops and studios approach us for our products and the good news is that Piecemakers in Costa Mesa is now keeping the range of my 4mm silk ribbons. They offer fabulous classes, and my friend Karen Fraser teaches there. She’s heading down there next week. Karen is without a doubt one of the best teachers I have ever met. She’s kind and funny and her classes are so enjoyable! Have a look here for her schedule. Wish I could join them!
Tanya Haines who owns The Common Thread in Bedfordshire, England, has shown her talent on TV! Tanya grew up in South Africa and moved to England in the nineties and has been teaching there for the past 18 years. I just love her designs - the softness of her colours and am proud to say that she uses my range of silk ribbons! Here are the links to her TV shows.
The first link and the second. Not sure how long they will be up, so don’t miss out! We welcome any shops and studios who would like to keep my ribbons or the ready-to- embroider fabric panels. Please contact us for assistance. If you like, you are welcome to download my ribbon chart with the colour swatches and the numbers/codes from here.
