Blog > A gorgeous Embroidery by Lisa Robinson from Perth

I have a lovely embroidery to show you today! Created by the talented Lisa Robinson, from Perth, Australia. I love how she combined surface embroidery with ribbon embroidery, creating a fabulous texture!

Lisa wrote to me:

“I just wanted to send a message to say that your silk ribbons are absolutely beautiful. Not only are their colours stunning, but they are so lovely to work with. The soft and subtle gradients and variegations really make for realistic flowers and leaves amongst many things. I wanted to share my last piece which I created, incorporating several of your ribbons in. This was my first time trying out silk ribbon embroidery and I got many tips and much inspiration from your website and YouTube channel.

I have attached some images, some of the colours were hard to capture in photographs but I hope it gives a good overall impression of the art with the silk ribbons too. I look forward to creating more art pieces with your ribbons.

Thank you again.”

I asked Lisa to write a little about her embroidery journey…

“I am based in Perth; Western Australia and my embroidery journey began last year when I taught myself thread painting by using YouTube videos and books to learn the different types of stitches. This is my second embroidery piece that I have completed and my first time using silk ribbons, so it was very much a learning journey. The picture is based on a Victorian engraving by John Neagle from 1849. It was a gift for my Mum.

The piece has been stitched with predominantly single stranded thread, with Di's beautiful ribbons incorporated throughout. The horse's mane and forelock are stitched with real horsehair from my pony, Rosie. The background has been coloured with dry watercolour pencils.

I very much enjoyed the journey and am excited to create more pieces that incorporate the thread and silk ribbons as I believe that they really do complement each other. I look forward to growing my collection of coloured silk ribbon.”

I hope this will inspire you all to some beautiful pieces! Have a good week and THANK YOU Lisa for sharing your talent with us.
Please don’t forget to send me pictures of your creations!
Until next time, happy stitching, mooi bly.
Love
Di
