Blog > Divine hoop by Alica Andrus from San Diego

Hello everyone

I have a simply divine piece to share with you today.

It’s a rendition of our bestseller ‘Tea in the garden’ by Alice Andrus from San Diego, California. Alice has been ordering panels from us for years and has entered her embroidery panels into the San Diego County Fair and won many ribbons. This featured hoop received first prize!

.

I asked Alice to share with us her embroidery journey and here is some of her reply:
.

“I am a compulsive embroiderer! My journey is probably the usual one. I started sewing clothing for myself in high school. After I was married and with two children under age 2, I wanted a creative outlet and took some thread embroidery classes.  Over the years I discovered crewel work, then did a small bit of Brazilian embroidery, followed by a passion to learn smocking and French hand sewing by machine.  My favorite smocking was a Christening gown that I made for my now 29 year old grandson.  This was made to replace a family one that was over 100 years old and  had holes in it from use through the years!
.

.

I discovered ribbon embroidery about 25-30 years ago and fell in love with it. I travelled to Piecemakers store, about 90 miles away, to take classes and was exposed to your prints. I have done too many to count and yearly enter the San Diego County Fair.  This year winning 9 ribbons for my 11 entries in the Home Arts Divisions.  I have entered and won ribbons since 1969!

.

Currently, I do some ribbon projects and tons of embroidery hoops.  Retired 20 years and with grown children, I have time to embroider daily. Thank you for providing all the lovely pictures for us to embroider and enjoy.”

.

Congratulations Alice and thank you so much for sharing your beautiful embroidery with us all  ❤️
