VINNI'S COLOURS - SERINA 100% Bamboo, Hand-Dyed Yarn for EmbroideryA wonderful Thread for Creative and Silk Ribbon Embroidery
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, and a favourite with South Africans, Vinni specialises in gorgeous
hand-dyed cotton and bamboo yarns. She is well-known amongst knitters and crochet artists and so I thought I would introduce embroiderers to her wonderful product.
I love her yarns for the soft, subtle sheen that they bring to creative and silk ribbon embroidery. Have a look

In 2004, Vinni Nielsen, a nurse and a native of Denmark and an avid knitter since childhood, started her business in South Africa. She soon realised that the South African yarn market was in dire need of a good range of coloured cotton yarn. She began to experiment with dyes in her kitchen and Vinni's Colours was born. Very quickly she needed to hire staff to skein and ball the yarns that were draped over her furniture and hanging up in the windows to dry. The business moved from the kitchen to the garden shed, where the yarn was dyed in baths. After 6 years she was finally able to move her rapidly expanding concern into its current premises, which is two factory buildings in Cape Town.
This success has had much to do with the dedicated help of a team of supportive staff (as well as faithful customers who love this unique South African product) who live within a stone's throw of the factory. All processes are done by hand, from the dyeing to the balling and skeining, and the yarn is sun-dried in the factory forecourt.
Today I am launching some of her lovely shades from the
SERINA range. Whether you knit, crochet or embroider, you will love this yarn!

Serina is a 100% Bamboo,
hand-dyed yarn. Bamboo is a luxurious yarn with a rich shiny lustre. The variations in the depths of shade make every product a unique adventure. Its natural drape makes it ideal for embroidery. The yarn divides into eight threads. Use 1 strand for finer detail and two or three for added volume like larger French knots or detached chains. You can also use it as it is (all 8 threads) to embroider larger lazy daisies on a jersey or bag or to form branches, stems and thick blades of grass, couch onto your design with a matching thread. This yarn is fabulous for knitted or crochet scarves, shawls, cowls, summer tops, home decor and babywear. The possibilities are endless!
Enjoy!
