I simply love this beautiful piece by the super-talented Wendy Horner from Cape Town. From one of our popular designs titled
“You and I” she made it in A3 size. Her teacher,
Annamaria Kelly, from Kloof in KZN sent it to me and WOW Wendy surely has a flair for ribbon embroidery!

Annamaria kindly shared her work with me, and she wrote:
“Hello Di
I’m so proud of Wendy Horner who made this picture all by herself. We would chat via WhatsApp for tips etc, and I told her she could do it. She relocated to Cape Town but visits me on occasion. She was not interested in ribbon embroidery in the beginning, her flat work, long and short (painting with a needle and thread) is superb. Then the day arrived when she allowed me to show her how. I can still remember her face when she saw the result and the rest is history. I’m very proud of her. The outcome speaks for itself, and she is loving it. Her attention to detail is amazing. Today I was honoured to have her back in class, and she bought quite a few pictures so I’m looking forward to showing the results when she is done. Well done Wendy!”

Don’t you love the happiness of the yellow and greens and the lively qualities of red in her piece? The merging of thread and ribbon is superb, congratulations Wendy and you too, Annamaria for showing Wendy her flair for this beautiful art!

Have a lovely weekend everyone, hopefully I will manage to get to have a nice hike and a walk along the sea as well. It’s cooler here in Cape Town, winter is on our doorstep!
Till next time
Happy stitching!
